Sorticulture artist selected
Artwork depicts whimsy of Everett’s Garden Arts Festival
EVERETT- Everett’s Cultural Arts Commission selected Jeannie Yovetich Burham as Sorticulture’s 2010 artist. Selected out of a field of more than 30 artists, Burham’s painting “Hippy Dippy Eco Peace Garden” explodes with lively colors and playful flowers that call out to the whimsy and fun of Sorticulture.
Now in its 13th year, Sorticulture is a celebration of creative outdoor living, featuring hand-crafted art for the garden, rare plants from specialty nurseries, display gardens and fun projects for kids, all in the beautiful arboretum setting of Legion Park in north Everett.
Burham sold her first painting at the age of 13 and hasn’t stopped painting since. As a resident of Camano Island, she has been active in the Camano Arts Association and Stanwood Camano Arts Guild in addition to participating in numerous projects and galleries throughout the Puget Sound area.
In describing her art she takes a “more is more” approach. She works to entice all the senses by combining unexpected colors, flattening space, utilizing interesting patterns and manipulating paint into textures. All these techniques came together in the painting chosen to represent Sorticulture.
“I am thrilled and very proud to be chosen as Sorticulture’s artist, because it is such a happy, outdoorsy event where gardening and art really come together”, Burham said.
This years’ festival will bring a wonderful array of art and greenery to Legion Park including green-thumb tips from Ciscoe Morris and other gardening experts.
After a day of browsing amongst beautiful plants and unique garden art treasures, spend the afternoon relaxing in the wine garden, enjoying live acoustic music from the back porch stage.
